Movies with political undertones are popular in Hollywood and indeed among several film industries all over the world. Some have, however, told their stories more realistically and excellently, and we have compiled a list of some of the best movies about politics:

All the President’s Men (In 1976)

This particular movie is journalistic, and several people indeed developed their love for journalism from the film. The movie was focused on uncovering the corruption, lies, and coverups that were a characteristic part of the Watergate scandal. However, it also went beyond that to expose a lot of the ills and terrible underside of the nation’s politics and the pivotal role that the free press plays in a democracy.

The Battle of Algiers (in 1966)

This movie focused on the guerrilla war of the French independence, and it was so tense, well-acted, and realistic that the pentagon had to screen it for counterintelligence training.  Interestingly, the film’s cast was primarily nonprofessional actors, yet the director, Gillo Pontecorvo, created a masterpiece of a movie that left viewers reeling.

Selma (2014)

This movie focused on the prominent civil rights movements, and Ava DuVernay did great work with the film. The movie was fact-based, of course, with David Oyelowo cast as the famous Dr. King. However, the movie was brilliant in that it did not revolve around just one man but brought into the picture all the community leaders that made the movement possible and lasting.
