What is BTS doing differently?

Alfred Nobel had one thing in mind when he invented dynamite. He simply wanted mineworkers and constructors to be able to blow up rocks easily. More than 150 years after the first dynamite, another one is blowing up. By now, you should’ve gotten the reference. Of course, it’s BTS.

The K-pop boy band is doing what no other K-pop boy band has done. Call them the Korean Beatles if you wish. Their first English song, Dynamite, has not only topped global charts but has also raked in streams in billions across several platforms. What’s more? The song is certified Gold in five countries and scooped an MTV award for them to take home. The song holds a Guinness World Record for the highest YouTube streams in a day. Who knows? It might just be a top contender for Song of the Year at the Grammys.

BTS isn’t the only K-pop band. There’s EXO, there’s Blackpink, and there’s GOT7. But the question is, is BTS just lucky, or are they doing something to stay ahead of other K-pop bands? The answer is fairly simple. The BTS sound comes off as original. Their style is also authentic and explores themes that any audience loves.

The boy band understands that music is business, so they aren’t taking it for granted. They’re pulling off the right collaborations, doing philanthropic work, and exploiting social media. If that wasn’t enough, they are a bunch of handsome young men (that explains some part of the cult-like following). One can only expect that they succeed. While Blackpink seems to be catching up, there may be no stopping BTS with the amount of passion and creativity that goes into their art.
